Pioneer Children Sang as They Walked...

Our Stake Primary was asked to have the Primary children participate in an old-fashioned trek through the park on July 21st.  Decorate those bikes and wagons and wear their pioneer best duds.
We didn't want any child to be left out, so we sewed bonnets and kerchiefs for all the boys and girls.
Here are some of the ones I made.

Nice thing was I got out my fabric scraps and used them up!
I had so much fun putting things together.
I used this as a project for the value of Good Works for my Personal Progress that I am working on.
It took about 30 hours for ironing, cutting, sewing, etc.

My trusty old Sears Kenmore sewing machine.
Duff gave it to me the first Christmas we were married. Nothing fancy,
but it's still going strong.

BYU Lacrosse Camp 2012

Chris had a good camp at BYU this summer.
It was the same week as the 4th of July.

After the first day the girls got WAY too much sun.
That's not a good thing when you have 4 more days to go!
And yes, they used sunscreen.  Just not enough applications during the day.
OUCH.

Well, We Know The Alarm Works!

.......even when it's turned OFF!

About 2am one night, we were JOLTED out of slumber by the alarm horns shrieking.  And I mean SHRIEKING.  I don't think I have ever heard anything so loud in my life, ever.

In those first seconds after waking up,  I was sure we were on fire, or an axe murderer had broken in downstairs and we were all going to be killed!
I sat bolt upright in bed and screamed at the top of my lungs!  Nervous reaction.

I know it wasn't funny at the time, but I'm cracking up writing about it now.
Josh ran upstairs and he and Duff went around looking for any signs of trouble.  We were half asleep still and couldn't remember the code to turn off the alarm.  I don't know what happened, but finally I just stepped up to the panel and put in the number that came very clearly into my mind.  At least the shrieking was off.
Now to figure out what happened.

Ainsley was sleeping in the pack and play in Shaun's room, which is across the hall from Josh and Meredith's room.
It's been an especially dry summer season, so we set up one of the humidifiers in the bedroom so the baby would have some moisture in the air.

Well, it had put out so much humidity, that when we opened the door it billowed out like fog.  It triggered the smoke alarm.

So now we know that works.
Really, really well!

We turned down the output of the humidifier.

Alpine Quail Fire

While we were in Utah, the Alpine Quail Fire broke out.
Tuesday, Lisa, Linda and I were driving back to the cabin from a trip into Heber to do some grocery shopping and get a Dairy Keen shake.
Lisa noticed the smoke starting to peek over the mountain and I said naw, it's just an afternoon cloud.
By the time we got home, it was definitely not a cloud and a huge fire!
It took DAYS to get it under control and out.  We had the smoke over into our valley.
Thankfully, people were safe and no important structures were lost.
It started by some sparks from a backhoe in a local park.

4th of July--Cabin

This just might turn into a tradition, who knows.
But we spent the 4th of July in Midway and Lisa and Craig and Linda and David made the trek from Arizona again this year for the holiday.
Josh and Meredith and Ainsley came too and we caravaned with them.  Ainsley was a champ in the car!

Lots of visiting.

Miss Sydney Birk in her holiday outfit.

The Birk Family.

Maxine enjoying the deck and fresh air.

Christine and Sydney at the player piano giving us some tunes.

Josh, Mere, and Ainsley.

Megan and Dan (Mere's sis) came up one day.
Meg's baby girl is due in September.  Playing with Ainsley being silly.

Daddy kisses.

Auntie Lisa kisses.

Enjoying the view from the deck.

All the guys doing their thing on the deck and cooking up the grub.

 Linda and our patriotic centerpieces....

Yes, the holiday we are celebrating is the 4th of July.
But it's always Christmas in Midway, so the tree stays up year round.  Gotta love the ambience of the twinkly lights, right?  And yes, the mantle says autumn.
Hey--it's a cabin in the mountains.  We kinda do what we want/feel.  Haha!

 Miss Ains.

Auntie's 5th of July breakfast:  Seafood Pasta Salad and a Diet Coke!

Josh's 5th of July breakfast:  Jello Poke Cake.  Hahaha.....!

Dinner at one of our family's favorites:  TUCANOS.

She wasn't too sure about all the noise.

 Yes, bring on the dinner....

Stop, please.
We're very full now.

Good times.  Good times.
