....with the Sound of Music!
Sing-a-long at the Hollywood Bowl!

Me and m' girls (Christine, Adrianne, and Meredith), plus Diana, Autumn (Adrianne's mom and sis) and Stephanie met up and caravaned to Hollywood. We have been planning this since the spring. The Bowl holds it one night a year in the fall where they show the movie on the big screen and you sing along to the songs.

The view of the Hollywood sign from our seats. Yes, it is this close. The 'bowl' is nestled on a hill side also shaped like a bowl with rows and rows of seats terracing up. There is not a bad seat in the place. It is surrounded with acres of trees. The acoustics are amazing.

Pre-show. It started at 6pm. They encourage the audience to dress up as characters or parts from the movie and they have a parade of them on the stage. They are judged and win prizes--nice prizes. Like cruises and trips, etc. The winners were 3 little brothers and sisters dressed up as: Tea (cup) with Jam (jar) and Bread. It was very clever and cute!

Here we are enjoying our picnic dinner: Diana, Stephanie and her daughter Tavia, Christine, Adrianne, Autumn, and Meredith. We each got our own Togos sandwich, and then potlucked fresh fruit, brownies, water, and chips. It was scrumptious! Adrianne appropriately brought her adorable picnic basket.

Here we go!

Everyone gets a goody-bag once inside. It has a flibbertigibbet card, a whil-of-a wisp card, a response card to the Captain's Ball (you must hiss loudly during the ball...), some curtain fabric from Maria's room, Edelwiess that you wave along with your cell phone or lighter during the song by the same name, and a popper that you pull when Maria and Georg kiss in the gazebo.
Lots of fun props!
The weather was pleasant. No sweaters or jackets needed. Things we learned: park close. It is worth the $20. We parked down by the El Capitan theater and walked thinking we would save some money. We most certainly got quite a bit of exercise and didn't save any money in the end. Although we got a 'thrill' by doing a doubletake while validating our parking ticket: a Michael Jackson look a-like. And he was GOOD! I think we were all in a little shock otherwise I would have asked him for a picture. He was totally in character.
But what else do you expect when you are in Hollywood!!
