Satellite Stake Conference

Awesome, Awesome!

Elaine Dalton-1st counselor in YW General Presidency:
  • I need to DOUBT NOT. FEAR NOT!
  • Visualize the 'eternal' Finish Line
  • 1st Samuel: He who honors God, HE will favor. Told story of Steven Lye from Singapore and his choice to run a marathon on Sunday.

Whitney Clayton:

  • Study the baptismal covenant
  • Keep commandments with better devotion
  • Better family prayer and FHE

Robert D. Hales:

  • Family Preparedness (due to all the fires, economy, drought, floods)
  • Modest expenditures
  • Tithing
  • Temple
  • Self reliance vs. Self sufficiency. We need both, but self reliance is what we are after.
  • Food, water, financial, long term storage. In that order. Start small and progress to larger, but START.

President Hinckely:

  • Enjoy the journey of marriage. Companionship is essential. You are an example to your children and posterity.
  • 4 cornerstones to build your marriage and family:
  • 1--Mutual Respect: RESPECT DIFFERENCES. They actually add to the well-roundedness and balance of a relationship. ANXIOUS CONCERN for one's sweetheart/companion. LOOK FOR VIRTUES. There are so many more than the quirks. Focus on them.
  • 2--Soft Answer: Be slow to anger/response. Act don't react. Pause. Use a quiet voice. Peaceful voice.
  • 3--Financial: Pay your tithes and offerings first. This act of FAITH and OBEDIENCE will bring the Lord's blessings. Counsel together on bills, purchases. Decide together and don't spend until you are both on the same page.
  • 4--Family Prayer: most problems would not ever happen if we prayed every morning and night as a family. And when problems do arise, they will be handled and resolved better because you are involving the Lord in them.

This was our 2nd satellite conference and I enjoyed it much better than the first one. I really felt like the messages were for me/us and our area. I had tender feelings when President Hinckley stood to speak. He is much older, frailer, quieter, than at Oct. conference. I know he is a prophet of God and my testimony of living prophets was strengthened.
