Adrianne serves in the Young Women program at church.
She works with the Beehives.
Tonight she was teaching them how to counted cross stitch and asked if I would come along and help her.
She wanted me to bring some projects that I have done. I had pillows and pillow covers, finished things and unfinished items. I also brought some samplers.
The pictures didn't turn out well because I don't know how to not get the glare from the glass out????
But you get the idea.
She is very good with the girls and they love her. I enjoyed watching her relate with them and teach them. It's nice to see your adult children move into those roles.
I did this sampler in 1993 while I was the YW president in Westminster 1st Ward.
I served there from 1989 to 1994 when we moved out of the ward down to Dove Canyon.
We displayed it each week during opening exercises.
Today, it would be missing the added YW Value of Virtue, whose color is gold.
Christine did this sampler when she was in the Faith In God program in Primary. She was 10 when she stitched this. She followed the 'pattern' that Natalie did when she embroidered the same sampler during her Achievement Days years, about the same age. A different color floss for each word. Their color choices are different though, and Natalie's is framed in a diamond shape gold frame with pink and green matting to match her room.
I did this sampler when I was in Primary during my Gaynote year.
At that time, I was 9 years old.
The Primary program for girls during the 1960's was:
~~Gaynote: 9-10 years old. Learn embroidery.
~~Firelight: 10-11 years old. Learn knitting.
~~Merry Hands: 11-12 years old. Learn crocheting.
We also learned the Articles of Faith, and scriptures, and lessons about the gospel with application for everyday living.
I'm really glad my mom saved my sampler. We had framed it in a really cheap, old white simple frame when I was a girl. It had been stuffed in a closet cupboard for years, and when my parents moved from my childhood home she found it and gave it back to me. Luckily, all the masking tape peeled off the back okay, and I had it reframed.
It hangs in my bedroom.
