This afternoon we had a microburst. It is a rare, small, yet very intense downdraft with lots of damaging wind and rain.
These are pictures of what it looks like and what happens. From what they said on the news, it is like the opposite of a tornado.
Fortunately, we did not have any damage. We did have to run around and close up all our windows and doors because the way the wind blew at 60 miles per hour while raining, the water just poured in and soaked everything near anything that was open.
On the news tonight, they showed some of the damage. One place was at BYU. The winds were so bad that they snapped trees and such. One tree broke and fell on a girl who was attending the gymnastics camp. It knocked her on the head and shoulders. She collapsed. Christine saw it! It was right outside the Cannon Center. She watched all the rescue people tend to the girl and take her to the hospital in the ambulance. She saw Jenni Meredith there and came to find out that the girl that got hurt was Jenni's roommate at the camp. Thank goodness she was treated and released later this evening.
But look at how beautiful the sunset was tonight. While we were washing dishes this is what we looked at. The quiet evening shadows.
All that water makes for pretty green and lush surroundings.
