Dawn Wells Potato Peeling Tip
(scroll down and turn off the music)
Okay. I got this in my email many months ago and thought it would be a good tip to post on the blog. But I never got around to it. My cousin, Jennifer, did! She tried it to make potato salad and said it really, really works! So I am borrowing this from her. She is a very good cook and wouldn't post it if it was just so-so.
Jenn's recommendations:
1. Score the potato well. It will help the peel come off better.
2. Let it sit in the ice water for 30 seconds instead of the 15.
3. If you are doing a lot of 'taters', change up the ice water to keep it cold.
For printing purposes:
1. Bring a large pot of water to boil.
2. Score around a potato well with a sharp knife and place it in the water for about 15-20 minutes until it is cooked/soft when pierced with a fork or knife.
3. Plunge in bowl of ice water for 15-30 seconds until cool enough to handle.
4. Lift out and starting in the middle, where it is scored, slip the peel off!
Isn't peeling the potatoes the worst part of making potato salad? Now we know. Thanks for posting it Jenn!
