Apples

I've been working out in the garages this morning going through things that I just knew a year ago I HAD to keep, and cleaning, tidying, and preparing wedding things for storage. I stopped for a snack of a gorgeous and delicious apple and drink of water. I remembered this tidbit in a magazine I read the other day and thought I'd jot it down. Enjoy! Hummm...An apple pie or apple crisp sounds mightly good right now....

An Apple A Day
Did you know September is the beginning of National Apple Month? What began as National Apple Week in 1904 has now expanded to a three-month celebration from September through November. In honor of National Apple Month, here are some fun facts about the fruit:

--7500 varieties of apples are grown throughout the world.
--Apples are grown in all 50 states in the U.S.

--Two pounds of apples make one 9-inch pie.

--A survey by the American Pie Council and Crisco found that apple pie is the favorite flavor among one in four Americans, followed by pumpkin, chocolate, lemon meringue, and cherry.

--The term “as American as apple pie” can be traced back to the sixteenth century. Pilgrims brought their pie-making skills and apple seeds from England to the American colonies. As the popularity of apple pie grew, the phrase began to symbolize American prosperity.
(This afternoon: got a haircut and weave. Fell asleep under the hair dryer for a quick power nap. It felt soooo good. Followed by a wonderful shampoo/massage. Then off for the mall and some facial products and of course a stop into the Yankee Candle Store. Oh yummy fall fragrances! Came home and had to walk through both garages to take in the cleaning I've done. Oh it feels good to be making some progress there. Not that they are horribly a mess--we can still park our car--but just stuff 'out' and not put away. That bothers me since it's been that way for a long time. I've got to go through my canning bottles and organize those next week.)
