The decorations are out, the candles lit, the jack-o-lanterns on the porch. The weather has turned cooler and the smells of fall are in the air! I just love this time of year. I love everything about Halloween except putting together the costumes. When my kids were younger, I was ambitious and poor. So I sewed all their costumes. Angels, army men, pirates, ballerina, witches, hobos, clowns, queen of hearts, etc. When we moved here, the costume boxes got lost. I was so sad, I then turned to catalogs and the Costume Palace. Anyway-- I think the reason I love Halloween so much is that it ushers in the rest of the Holidays. That's my take on it anyway. There is a 'feeling' of anticipation, preparation, family, bonding, celebrating, gratitude. And oh--the smells, the 'harvest', the candles, fireplace, the cool weather, the treats, the foods! You GOTTA LOVE IT!
Some pretty cute Trick or Treaters, don't you think?! l-r: Christine, Travis Corbin, Cody Carpenter, and Wyatt Corbin. This group have been friends since they were babies. Look at them as pre-teens now! Good looking bunch!
Can you believe the size of this 'loot'! I decided to weigh it. Can you guess how much? Well, I'll tell you--9 lbs. I'm going to have Christine go through it and eliminate what she truly doesn't like. She had a great time and it was the first time she went without her dad or I. Another growing up 'milestone'. Duff was out of town and Mike and Adrianne were gone, so I stayed home to pass out the candy. She went down to the Carpenters and Merlin Corbin and his boys met them there and he took the group around this year.
Dodie met me at the soccer field this afternoon while Christine was practicing and she went with me on my walk. Then came back to the house and ate dinner with us and we got all the extra tri-tip and cheese left over shredded and sealed in her food saver bags. That's a pretty neat device. I may have to look into getting one. NO freezer burn. (The tri-tip was what was thawing in her freezer when they lost electricity in the fire. I cooked it up in my crockpots. The cheese was left over from trunk or treat. She is on the activities committee and they gave it to her to take home and she gave it to us.)
