EFY 2010

Chris is having fun at EFY.
This particular group is not in the dorms.  They are in the Riviera Apartments.
I don't know who owns them now, but they have seen better days.  Like when I was a student it was THE place to live.  The 'Riv'.  But she doesn't much care; it's EFY.

Her roommate is a girl from Boise, Idaho.
The other two are from Temecula, CA and Taylorsville, UT.
The company counselors are in their apartment too.
That means a lot of fun!

There was a lot of excitement as everyone got checked in and then moved into their apartments.
Jenna T. is around the corner, Addy is next door to Christine, Ellin is in with Addy, and Sam and Jenni are next door to Addy.  Each year they are in the same session but plan to room separately so they can get to know other people and build strength of their own.  This arrangement was a fun surprise!  Brandon N. and Chelsea B. are there too.  And Erik is at sports camp across the street.

A picture with some 'attitude'.
Go get 'em girls, and have a great time.
Remember, one of the best things you can do is 'feel' and 'listen' to what the Holy Ghost is whispering.
Love You!

When I was growing up, we never heard of EFY in Utah. It went on, but the kids in Utah must not have been invited to attend or something because we never were told when or where it was. It wasn't until I actually attended BYU that I heard about EFY and found out it'd been going on for years. How does one find out about it so you can go (if you're a teen)?

It is part of the Continuing Education program. Growing up in California I had never heard of it either. I only found out about it with my own kids from a friend in the ward when she asked if Josh would like to go with her son. I can't speak for what it was like when you were a teen, but Utah kids make up the largest percentage of those attending at BYU. So much so, that they have opened up other EFY's back east, in California, Oregon, and in the midwest (like in Nauvoo, etc.) They have a whole set of counselors and speakers etc. who travel to those places and do the same program.

There used to be a Girl's Academy and a Boy's Academy for 12 and 13 year olds but they have done away with that now. Gwen used to send her kids to those as soon as they turned 12. I had never heard about them, but she knew all about the programs and had gone as a kid too.

Then they started adding sports camps. Those are REALLY popular. They also have drama, music, just about anything you want.

Being an alumni, your mom might have gotten information about the summer programs. Or not. Duff is an alumni and he hasn't even all these years. I think it is pretty much word of mouth.

I think the funny thing is that you would NOT believe all the people who are loyal U fans who hate the Y for everything, but send their kids to EFY and the sports camps. The amount of cars sporting all their U stickers just cracks me up.

Hey, Cindy, reading your blog. Temecula is just about 45 minutes away from our place. We may know the family Ron is the CFM over those buildings, so it's possible he may know them. Our kids loved EFY. Lots of fun, testimony builders, new friends.

(Kind of) funny story, I had a contract at the Rivera for my freshman year. We got there and my Mom just couldn't leave me in that apartment so we found a new one. LOL. Totally a horrible experience then but something to laugh about now. Although, a week for EFY would probably be fun...but maybe not a whole semester.... :)
