Shaun's Surgery Today

We had to be at the hospital at 8am.
Shaun had his surgery today.  He went in around 10:15am. and the doctor came out to talk to us a little bit after noon.  Everything went smoothly.  Just as expected.  However he did say that the hernia was bigger than he had thought.  In his words:  It was a BIG one.
But all is fixed and now it's time to heal.
We brought him home about 2:30ish.  Crazy how they do that now.  He has a lot of pain, but the meds are helpful as is the ice.  He can get up and down on his own albeit very carefully and s l o w l y.  He had a little coughing while eating his dinner and that was not good.  He said its the most pain he has ever felt in his life.  He is going to sleep on the family room couch tonight downstairs and I'll sleep on the other in case he needs help during the night.  He is a good patient.  Not whiny or complaining.
Surgeon said he has to be down for 7-10 days and then needs to take it easy for 6-8 weeks after that.  Then life as usual.

Glad he's recovering well. I hear hernia surgery recovery pain is worse than the actual hernia. Yuck!

I totally understand what he is going through. When Craig has his he too slept on the couch for several days. It was easier for getting up to go to the bathroom.

That looks like a kaiser hospital. Hope he has a good recovery.
