Swiss Days 2011

SEPTEMBER 2-3, 2011
Christine flew home last night because she was in charge of some things for Freshmen Orientation on Friday morning as part of being on the Impact Team for the high school.
Duff and my dad slept in, but my mom and I got up early and were out of the house by 6:45 to get down to the town square for Swiss Days.
We parked in Nancee's drive way on 1st south and walked up to the square.  The music was already playing on all the speakers throughout town.  The little irrigation brook was rippling down 1st east as we turned the corner.  It was refreshingly cool for the end of the summer morning.  It doesn't officially open until 8am, but by the time we drive down and park and walk up to the square we get there just a little bit early. The goal is to avoid the crowds!

 Under the canopies having lunch.
At this point we are most grateful to sit down for a bit and have some shade!

The Relief Society booths have oodles of homemade goodness!
Swiss bread, cinnamon rolls, Bratzlies, cookies, brownies, homemade candies, etc.  Down the way there is a booth where they toast and cinnamon nuts while you wait and the smell just carries you away to heaven.

One of the yodelers with his accordian singing us through lunch.
It is very festive.

 My lunch:
Knockwurst sandwich with saurkraut, swiss cheese, and pickles.  Chips and a cookie.
It was scrumptious!

Homemade cherry and swiss apple pies with the hugest slice of vanilla bean ice cream.
I had to make a conscious decision between the scones or the pie for dessert this year.  Last year I had the scone which is bigger than a standard paper plate! and has all the toppings you can dream up.

Mom and I finished walking and shopping all the booths by noon.  We got just what we came for.  New rugs for the cabin kitchen from the hand woven rug lady, a funny iron bat for my shepherd's hook outside my California front door, an iron snowflake for the same place for winter.  I got the hook last year with a pumpkin for the fall and try to get one new piece of iron work each year.  I have a cute sitting spider and witches broom from the same vendor in years past.  I got some Cmas gifts for the girls too.  Flannel baby blanket kits for the new baby coming, and some darling, darling, darling software and products from a vendor named Stories By Me.  The two gals who are the creators of this stayed with us at the cabin this year.  They are friends of my niece and all the local accomodations booked up faster than expected so they needed a place to stay.  It was fun to get to meet and know them a little.  Such NICE gals! and the vision they have about their product is inspirational.  Click on their site for a great experience.  Their products are exceptional quality.  You could try to knock it off, but it just wouldn't be the same!

My dad was feeling good enough that he wanted to try to get out for a little.  After two weeks, he was getting cabin fever, literally.  He and Duff drove down and met us for lunch.  It did him good to get out although he napped for most of the day afterwards.  His strength was spent!  We started seeing better improvement in him after this.
