Heather Update

Go to Cherise's blog to get all the details leading up to my post.

Overview: Heather had seizures again last week that put her back in the hospital with earlier than expected testing. Today she had gamma ray/knife surgery. I talked to Cherise during the lacrosse game hoping for some news. The surgery started several hours later than they expected and she was still in it.

Cherise called later tonight to let us know the results were not what any of us were hoping for. The cancer's progression was a lot worse than anyone realized. They called the cancer 'smart'. I don't like that cancer can be 'smart'. It kills people. It should be 'dumb.' Anyway, it responds to the chemo well for a few months and then wises up and finds a new way/place to invade. There were so many lesions today they could only do part of them. Depending on how she does they hope to try and do another surgery. The doctor doing the gamma said there were so many lesions on her brain stem he didn't know how she was even walking, etc.

Not the news we had all been hoping and praying for. And as if that isn't enough, Cherise has now found some breast lumps. She is the same age as Heather was when she found hers and pregnant. She has had a cyst before that was benign and they are hoping for the same result. She has an appointment on Friday with a surgeon/specialist. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
