Dan and Dodie left today! It's been 8 days since the fire and their evacuation. Here are some things I've learned from this experience:
- When the Bishop and/or RS president calls, accept immediately.
- The Lord fills in any and all gaps that present themselves.
- Let them TALK. Or in other words, put your things aside and be a GOOD LISTENER. They need it and it's surprising what you learn too.
- Let them help with regular things.
- It is hard to be on the 'receiving end'. We are so 'giving' oriented.
- LOVE them.
- Pray with them.
- Encourage them.
- Life isn't 'normal' right now. Do things that make them feel 'normal'.
- Remember we are all Heavenly Father's children.
These are certainly not the only things I've learned, but a few that come to mind right now as I'm typing.
They are coming back this afternoon to gather up some more of their things. They have a lot to do with putting things back together and cleaning up. The ward is arranging crews with the help of the missionaries to assist with that. But the main thing is that they didn't lose their homes.
We had such a nice FHE on Monday. We talked about preparedness and all of that because of our fire experience. Dan and Dodie talked about it from their perspective and it ended with lessons learned from both sides. We all got a little teary, even Mike and Christine, as we expressed love and brotherhood for each other and gratitude. We have friends/brother/sister for 'life' now in a new way because of living this experience together.
On to another chapter in living life!
