I didn't know this existed, but there is this set-up called Reverse 911 where homes can be called and given information.
We have been getting regular calls to our landline phone in this manner with updates for our area and neighborhoods. It is a recording with the latest news. Nice, since we don't have very much tv media coverage right now.
