1/2 stick butter
2-3 small cans mushroom slices or stems and pieces, drained, reserve liquid
1 can exaporated milk
1 16 oz. carton sour cream
1-2 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 Tbsp. cold water
1-2 tsp. beef base
salt and pepper to taste
any drained juices from the broiled or bbq'd steaks after they have rested
In saute pan, melt butter/margarine and add mushrooms and just brown slightly over medium heat, stirring every once in a while. Add evaporated milk, sour cream, mushroom liquid and bring to a low, small simmer over low heat so you don't scorch it. Mix cornstarch and water together until smooth. Gradually stir into hot liquid until blended. Stir constantly bringing to a low boil for 1 minute, or until thickened. Season with beef base and salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with steak and baked potato. Yum!

I totally remember that kitchen. The red booth, always felt like we were eating in a restaurant. Don't remember that gravy but did love her Sunday dinners. Delish.
